Mount Kailash is a snowcapped bulk black peak elevated at 22,000 feet (6,714 meters) above sea level forming part of the Trans-Himalaya in Tibet which has a unique distinction of being the world’s most venerated holy place. Before the emergence of Hinduism Jainism or Buddhism, the cosmologies relate Mount Kailash as the mythical “Mount Meru” or “Mount Sumeru”, the center of all the physical, metaphysical and spiritual universes. It has different names as entitled by different religions such as “Kang Rimpoche”, “Asthapada”, “Jewels of Snow”, “Soul of Universe” or “Center of Universe”.
Via the route of Nepal, huge numbers of Hindu religious people from across the globe and neighboring country India come to visit the sacred
Kailash Parbat and Manasarovar Lake, situated in the southwestern part of China’s Autonomous Region of Tibet every year believing it as the dwelling of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. To accept the strenuous pilgrimage and have a divine view of Shiva’s dwelling is to obtain the benevolence of fortunate for entire lifetime.
It is believed that completing the Kailash Circuit once removes all the sins committed knowingly or unknowingly ever in the life time. Circumambulating Mt. Kailash 108 times means that one directly achieves “Nirvana” (liberation). There are different mythologies associated with Kailash Parvat which was already legendry before the Hindu epics The Ramayana and The Mahabharata were written. It is also source to four prominent rivers of Asia namely, The Brahmaputra, The Indus, The Ganges and The Sutlej.
Manasarovar Lake: The name Mansarovar composed of two Sanskrit words
“Manas” meaning mind or consciousness and
“Sarovar” meaning Lake is believed to be the Lake of Knowledge and wisdom. This lake lying 15 meters below the Holy Mount Kailash is also another pilgrimage destination in the Kailash range. However, It is not an easy trail to rotate the gigantic lake as it takes almost 3 full days for locals and 5-7 days to adventure lovers for camping to walk around its relatively circled peripheries. We can see eight different Buddhist Monasteries and popular is Chiu Gompa Monastery while rounding Mansarovar Lake, which is situated at an altitude of 4580 mtrs above the sea level. Hindus worship it as the bathing Lake of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Buddhists also believe that Lord Buddha meditated nearby this lake to attain the enlightenment. The praying and chanting of the Priests, Monks and high lamas on the shore of the lake inspire the devotees to complete their arduous rotation. One to three rotations is believed to be the way of carving the way towards heaven after death. Even one dip into its cold water is believed, by Hindus, to relinquish the soul and physical body of sins of 100 births. The serenity of the spiritual environment compensates the tiredness, anxiety, and fear with the reward of eternal satisfaction and peace from within and rest of the world to the pilgrims visiting these divinities. Many others also come to take a bath with the desire to retain youth and vitality. Ultimate Salvation called “Mokshya” is believed to be the reward of the exertion of this holy circumambulation of Mount Kailash and Manasarovar Lake.
